Installing Windows 8 from a flash drive to a computer. BIOS problems

Installing Windows 8 from a flash drive to a computer. BIOS problems

As a result of a failure or when buying a new computer, the user may urgently need to independently install Windows 8. The process of installing the operating system is quite simple. The main thing is to follow the prompts of the system and carefully read its instructions.

However, before starting the operation, you should carefully prepare and stock up on the necessary tools, since during the installation process it will no longer be possible to download the necessary files. In addition, before starting the installation, it is important to know how to respond to system messages and what to consider during the operation.

What you need to install

First of all, for installation you will need a distribution kit with installation files. If you are going to run the installation from a flash drive, then you must first make it bootable and write the appropriate disk image file to it.

It is worth considering that an image with the Windows 8 operating system can take at least 4Gb, which means that you need a flash drive of the appropriate size to write it. In addition, it is important to consider that after reinstallation, device drivers may be needed, especially if the installation is done on a laptop or netbook.

You can pre-download the ISO file with the distribution kit for recording from the official Microsoft website or create the image yourself if you have a disk with a copy of the required operating system. If the DVD is licensed, the license activation files may not install properly, and additional activation with keys will be required.

Create a bootable flash drive

To make a flash drive bootable without using utilities, you need to use the command line. By choosing this method, the image will simply need to be unpacked to a USB drive, after formatting the device and transferring the files necessary to be able to start from it.

Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

This utility was created by Microsoft and is designed to record ISO image to disk or flash drive. The program is quite easy to use and completely Russified.

To start creating boot disk you need to connect it to your computer and run the Download Tool, do the following:

Do not pay attention to the name of the utility. It can easily record any images, both earlier versions of the operating system, and generally other applications.

WinToFlash Utility

This application is multitasking and powerful. In addition to creating a bootable flash drive, the utility has an advanced mode with additional features. Many options will allow you to prepare a USB device for any purpose, making it bootable with the ability to work with any system and bit depth.

To write an image of a bootable distribution kit, the standard program interface is enough. To start the operation, you only need to select the letter of the drive on which the installation will be written, and specify the location for storing the image.

A feature of the application is that it works with all possible formats, including archives. Well, if an error occurs during installation, or the system is blocked by the Winlocker virus, then using the drive with this utility, you can perform many additional actions with the computer and the system.

UltraISO Utility

This utility is perhaps the most famous among users. It allows you not only to write absolutely any image formats to any devices, including partitions of USB drives, but also allows you to edit and replace files inside the archive containers.

By changing or adding content, you can always have an up-to-date distribution with the latest updates and fresh drivers. And also you will have the opportunity to remove unnecessary programs or versions of operating systems in order for the image to fit on a USB flash drive.

The application interface is very simple and convenient, but slightly different from previous programs, since UltraISO has more appointments. In addition, this utility allows you to create a disk image yourself, then edit it and burn it to a USB flash drive. If necessary, you can convert the file format for further work with it.

To burn the finished image to a drive and install Windows 8 from a USB flash drive to a PC, you must perform the following steps:

Command line

If you have problems starting OS Windows, and there is no way to restore it, and you don’t have a ready-made flash drive with a distribution kit to start reinstalling, but there is an image file on your computer, you can use the command line to create a boot partition on the drive.

Also, this feature will be useful in the absence of the Internet on the computer at a time when the installation files of the above programs are missing, and there is nowhere to get them.

In order to make the flash drive bootable, you must execute the following commands in sequence, after launching the prompt window as administrator:

  1. DISKPART(launch the application for working with disks and partitions);
  2. list disk(we call the list of available drives);
  3. select disk 1(select the device, the picture shows that the flash drive is number one);
  4. clean(we clear the information from the drive);
  5. create partition primary(create a new main partition on the flash drive);
  6. select partition 1(choose it for work);
  7. active(make the selected section active);
  8. format fs=NTFS(we format the flash drive by changing file system on NTFS);
  9. assign letter=Q(we assign a letter to the device that is definitely not busy);
  10. exit(we end the program).

The bootable flash drive is created and ready to go. It remains only to unpack the distribution from the ISO file there. It is important to note that extracting directly to the drive will take a long time and may be interrupted when processing large files. Therefore, it is better to unzip the image to a hard drive, and then proceed to copy it to a USB flash drive.

How to install Windows 8 from a flash drive through BIOS

Now that the equipment is prepared and the installation distribution is ready, you need to correctly configure bios so that the initial boot starts from the USB drive, and not from the hard drive, as is set by default.

Boot selection in BIOS

To select the boot priority in Bios, the easiest way is to use the key quick start. Most often this is "F12", but another button can be used. It depends on the manufacturer of the PC or laptop.

Also, boot priorities from the device can be changed in the Bios firmware itself. To do this, you need to go there using the "Del" button and go to the launch options in the "Boot" section.

It is necessary that the USB device be selected as the main, that is, the first in the list, for booting by priority. After making changes, it is necessary that the system remembers the parameters. Usually, exit + apply settings is done with the "F10" key.

Installation

After restarting the computer, when choosing a flash drive as the main device to start, a system message should appear about the start of the installation process. It is necessary to wait until the distribution kit determines the settings and characteristics of the computer, after which a window will appear with the choice of the version of the operating system, if there are several of them in the installation image.

The process of installing OS Windows 8 is very simple. The only thing that will need to be done is to select the language, as well as the partition on which the system will be installed. If necessary, you need to create a logical disk or edit its parameters by clicking the "Disk settings" button.

System Setup

After the installation process of OS Windows 8 is completed, a window for user settings and a choice of system colors should appear that are more convenient for perception and choosing a PC name.

In the next window, if necessary, it is possible to configure the security of the operating system, where you can immediately set the firewall settings, change the built-in characteristics of Widows Defender or the criteria for displaying and launching files.

If you are using a connection to account in the Microsoft system, you need to enter the address Email for identification. However, it is worth considering that if you are not a regular customer of the corporation, it is better to leave this step by clicking the "Sign in without a Microsoft account" button.

Required drivers and programs

The necessary drivers and utilities may be included on a disk with your device. However, if this is not the case, then they are located in a special system partition. In addition, OS Windows 8 installs the main drivers automatically, and those that are missing can be downloaded from the official resource of the computer manufacturer.

The site will require you to enter your computer details, including serial number, model, and hardware subcategory. As a rule, all this data can be found in the accompanying documentation or on the back of the laptop / netbook.

The programs required for operation are already installed in OS Windows 8. Therefore, you can easily view a video file, listen to music or edit a document. However, if you need third-party software, download it from official sites after installing an antivirus program.

The third-party software installation protection system will constantly make a request for permission to perform the installation, unless you specify other parameters in the OS Windows security settings. Be careful when choosing versions software. You must use software designed specifically for Windows 8, otherwise its performance is not guaranteed.

The process of installing OS Windows 8 from a flash drive is not difficult. Using the above instructions, everyone can quickly install and configure the operating system.

With the advent of the Windows 8 operating system, users have additional features that will help make working at a computer more convenient and interesting. In the article I will describe in detail how you can install Windows 8 on a computer or laptop from a USB flash drive.

System Requirements

First, make sure your computer meets the minimum system requirements:

  1. processor frequency not less than 1 GHz;
  2. RAM at least 1 GB for a 32-bit OS, and 2 GB for a 64-bit OS;
  3. the volume of the allocated partition on the hard disk must be at least 20 GB (I allocated 18 GB, and that was enough for me).

Create a new disk partition

Now you need to select a section hard drive, to install Windows 8. If you want to install it instead of your old OS, then format the hard drive partition on which it was installed. If you want to install Windows 8 next to your main OS, then you need to allocate an empty partition on your hard drive.

Create a bootable flash drive

Download an image with the Windows 8 operating system from the Internet. Then you will need a flash drive, the volume of which should be larger than the downloaded image. Please note that all information from the flash drive will be erased. Therefore, copy all the necessary files from it to the partition of the hard disk where the data is stored.

The next thing to do is create a bootable flash drive. To do this, you can use various methods. I will use the free and simple Rufus program.

Run it on your computer, in the "Device" line, select the desired flash drive. Fill in the next three lines as shown in the figure below. Next, click on the floppy disk icon and select the downloaded image on your computer. Press the "Start" button.

The following window will appear in which the program will warn you that all data from the flash drive will be erased - click "OK".

After the bootable USB flash drive with the image we need is created, click on the button "Close".

Changing the download priority

Now we need to change the boot priority in the BIOS so that the computer starts from our flash drive. Connect the flash drive to the computer on which you will install the operating system. To enter the BIOS, while turning it on or rebooting, press the F2 or Del button, it depends on your device. You can change the boot priority in the "Boot" section.

We watch a video on how to enter the BIOS settings and boot from a USB flash drive or disk:

I have an ASUS laptop and the BIOS looks like this. In the "Boot" section, I go to "Hard Drive BBS Priorities".

Here you need to find the item that has the words USB or Flash, and put it at the top of the list.

On the right side, read which button is responsible for saving the settings, I have F10, click on it, then click "Yes".

The computer will reboot and an inscription will appear - press any button on the keyboard, then the download will be performed from the USB flash drive and the installation of the operating system will begin.

Installing Windows 8

In the next window, select the language, time format and keyboard layout, click Next.

Enter your serial product key and click Next.

Place a check mark next to "I accept the terms of the license" and click Next.

Now select item "Custom: Windows installation only".

Next, you need to specify the hard disk partition on which you want to install the OS. Select it and click "Disk Setup". In the next window click on the button "Format", and then "Next" .

After that, the installation of the operating system will begin. Wait for the process to complete and your computer to restart.

After reboot, the message will appear again. "Press any key to boot from USB...", you do not need to press anything, otherwise you will boot from the USB flash drive again.

In the next window, select a suitable background and give the computer a name. Click Next.

If your device is connected to the Internet, you will immediately be prompted to select a network.

The network may be secure, so you must enter a password. Then click Connect.

The next window will prompt you to set up a Microsoft account. With it, you can install applications from the Windows Store, synchronize files and settings. I will not create an account (if necessary - this can be done later), so I click the button "Sign in without a Microsoft account".

Fill in the line "Username". If you want to download operating system asked for a password, fill in the following fields, if not, leave them blank. Click Done.

Probably, most netbook users are wondering: ? But the issue of installing Windows 8 from a flash drive is relevant not only for them. The fact is that disk drives are slowly becoming a thing of the past and sooner or later the question will arise: how to install windows 8 from flash drive? In this article, we will show you how to properly install Windows 8 from a USB flash drive.

note: in the article we will use the term "netbook" to describe the process install windows 8 from flash drive. The tips in this article apply not only to netbooks, but also to laptops, computers, the technical capabilities of which support booting from USB.

And now our plan for installing Windows 8 from a USB flash drive:

Now everything is in order. Let's start with the 1st point.

1. Create a bootable flash drive to install Windows 8 from it

It is logical that install windows 8 from flash drive, you need to write a Windows 8 image to it. This process is called: creating a bootable USB flash drive. What and how to do is detailed in the guide: How to make a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 8. There is also another way to create a bootable USB flash drive, it is described in the article: Create a bootable USB flash drive using Novicorp WinToFlash. Although the case with Windows 7 is considered there, the same tips apply in the case of Windows 8. After the USB flash drive is made bootable, we proceed to the second point of our action plan for installing Windows 8 from a USB flash drive.

note: it is possible that you have an installation disk with Windows 8, but you need to install the same Windows 8, but not from a disk, but from a USB flash drive. In this case, you need to create a disk image in iso format. We read how to do this in the article: How to create an ISO.

The task is to boot the netbook from the flash drive. To do this, you need to make some settings in the BIOS. "How to enter the BIOS?" - you probably ask. There are keys for this, such as Del, F2, Esc. These keys are the most commonly used. To find out exactly which keys are used to enter the BIOS, read the instructions for your netbook. You can enter the BIOS in two cases: when we turn on the netbook and in the first seconds we press the BIOS entry key; or, if the netbook is already turned on, then reboot it and at the beginning of its boot, press the BIOS entry key.

Let's consider how to configure the BIOS to boot from a USB flash drive using the Samsung R523 laptop as an example. Before entering the BIOS, we connect the bootable USB flash drive we made (see the 1st paragraph) to USB port and to enter the BIOS, press and hold down the key for a few seconds F2. A window will open:

We now have a tab exit, we need to go to the tab Boot located to the left of the tab exit. You can only control the BIOS with the keyboard (some recent BIOS versions already support the mouse), at the bottom of the screenshot you see hints, that is, which keys are for which action. The names of the keys are marked in white, their actions are in black. We are interested in Select Menu, i.e. menu selection. Keys are used to control Left and Right.

So, we went to the Boot tab, here you need to enter the menu Boot Device Priority(device boot priority). Press the key Enter, look at the screenshot:

We see the boot order of devices in the laptop. The first is HDD SAMSUNG HM321HI, is it a hard drive or HDD laptop. In third place is our bootable USB flash drive, with which you need to install Windows 8. It must be put in first place in this list, only then the laptop will boot from the USB flash drive. Using the keyboard, select the third position, on which the flash drive is located:

Then we will move it to the first position. As the BIOS prompts, it has a key for this action. F6(this key is on the top row of the keyboard). Triple clicking on F6, you get the following result:

Our flash drive is in first place in the device boot order. This is what we wanted. Now you need to save the settings. Again, look at the bottom of the screenshot and see that the key F10 intended for Save and Exit, which means "save and exit". Click on F10, confirm saving the settings and exit the BIOS. The computer starts booting from the flash drive.

Now the second point of the action plan about how to install windows 8 from flash drive completed successfully. Let's go straight to the description. install windows 8 from flash drive.

After waiting a few seconds, you will see a window where you need to select the Windows 8 installation language and keyboard layout. You select the appropriate language and press Further:

click IInstallation. Also here is the line System Restore, this is a system restore feature. But now we are not interested in it.

The process of installing Windows 8 from a USB flash drive has begun:

We accept the license, check the box next to " I accept the license terms» and click Next:

We are asked to specify the type of installation, we select the second one, it is called: " Custom: Windows installation only (for advanced users)". See screenshot:

And at this stage, we ask which disk to install Windows 8 on. The screenshot shows three local disk but in your case the situation will most likely be different. If you just bought a netbook and you are installing Windows for the first time, there will be only one disk. It would be good to divide it into at least two: one for Windows, and the other for other purposes (for example, for storing music, movies, games, etc.)

The disk on which we install Windows 8 should be formatted. To do this, click on the line Drive options (advanced). Screenshot:

A window with advanced settings opens. To create additional section click on New. In the screenshot, this function is not available, because we have three partitions created on one physical disk, and more than three is impossible. I think that this is all clear.

We wanted to format the partition on which we put Windows 8, for this we click Format

We are honestly warned that all information on the disk will be destroyed as a result of formatting. Click OK

Click to continue Next

Windows 8 files are being copied...

At this point, the netbook will reboot (there will be a warning).

note: after rebooting, the netbook should boot from the disk on which we install Windows 8. If it boots from the USB flash drive again, then reboot it, go into the BIOS and change the settings to boot from the hard drive (see the 2nd point of our plan).

After rebooting, after a few minutes, a window will appear Personalization(eng. Personalize). In it, enter the name of the computer and click Further.

In the window Options(Settings) click on the button located on the left with the inscription Use express settings(use default settings). Screenshot:

Enter your account name and click Ready.

Let's wait a little more installing windows 8 from flash drive ends

And here is the result of the work done: we installed Windows 8 and now we see the tiled interface of the Windows 8 operating system.

Would you like to watch a video course on how reinstalling Windows 8.1? If yes, download the course: link (234.7 Mb)

Going to work Windows table 8 You will see that it does not have the familiar Start button. The fact is that the developers refused to use the classic Start button. Now its former functionality is implemented in a completely different way. Since many users do not like this innovation, it is possible to return the Start button along with its menu. There is a Classic Shell utility for this purpose. You can download it at the end of this article. Then you need to install. Installation is intuitive. After installing Classic Shell, the Start button will appear. Screenshot:

Click on the button Start, the settings window will open. See screenshot:

In this window, select the type of Start menu. We can choose Windows Classic, Windows XP or Windows Vista / Windows 7. Then a window will appear:

Click OK.

In this window, also click OK and press the button Start. We will have something like this Start menu (depending on the style of the Start menu that we chose in the settings of this utility):

As you can see, we have successfully returned the Start button to Windows 8

Let's finish this. Please write your feedback and questions in the comments.

Windows 8.1 is currently latest version operating system from Microsoft. And although the "eight" has collected a lot of negative reviews due to its unusual interface and some errors, many users want to try installing it on their laptop or computer. If you do not have a disk or optical drive, it will be useful to learn how to install Windows 8 from a USB flash drive.

Create a bootable flash drive

The first step is to prepare removable media by writing the Windows 8 distribution onto it. If you installed Windows 7 from a USB flash drive, you must remember that this is one of the most time-consuming processes in the entire system installation procedure.

Simply copying files to media will not bring the desired result - the system will not boot from a USB flash drive.

Creating a bootable flash drive is easier, faster and more convenient with the help of special utilities - Windows 7 USB / DVD Download Tool and WinToFlash. You can also do this using the command line, but in this case you will have to enter several commands and carefully check the correctness of their spelling.

Command line

Insert a flash drive into a USB port and launch the Windows command prompt.

Open a list of all connected disks with the "list disk" command.

Determine the number of your flash drive, based on its volume. Select it using the "select disk 2" command (if the flash drive has received the number 2).

Delete all contents of the removable drive using the "clean" command.

Create a new partition by typing "create partition primary" at the command prompt.

Select the newly created partition - "select partition 1".

Activate it with the "active" command.

Format removable media in NTFS - "format fs = NTFS".

Assign a partition letter with the "assign" command.

Type "exit" to exit the DISKPART utility.

Mount the ISO image of the Windows 8 distribution using Daemon Tools. Go to "My Computer" and see what letters are assigned to the virtual drive and your flash drive. Remember them.

Enter the following value at the command prompt: "K:\Boot\bootsect.exe /nt60 G:". "K" in this case is the letter of the virtual drive; "G" is your removable media where you create the boot sector. After that, you should receive a message that the operation was successful and the code has been written.
You just have to transfer the Windows 8 installation files to the created bootable USB flash drive. There are several ways to do this: for example, use Total Commander or simply copy files from a disk image to a USB flash drive.

Another way is to use the command line. Run it again and enter a command like this: "xcopy K: G: / s / e / h / k".

As you already understood, "K" here is the letter of the virtual drive on which the image with Windows files eight; "G" is your flash drive. After completing these procedures, you can restart your computer and proceed with the installation of the system.

If working with the command line seems too complicated for you, use special utilities.

Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

This program features a simple interface and minimal features, making it ideal for beginners who worry they might accidentally do something wrong.

Process of creation bootable media divided into four easy steps.

Run the program and click the "Browse" button to specify the path to the Windows 8 ISO image. After selecting desired file click "Next".
Select the media on which the Windows 8 distribution will be written. Insert the USB flash drive into the port and click "USB Device".
Select your removable media in the corresponding field and click "Begin copying".
Confirm flash drive cleaning:
Wait for the process of copying Windows 8 files to a removable drive. This usually takes several minutes.

Download the utility and run it. A “Welcome” window will appear on the screen, which details what this program is used for. Click "Next" to go to the next window.

You will have to press the "Next" button two more times before you get to the window with the program transfer wizard.

Attention! Before adding Windows 8 files to WinToFlash, you need to unpack the distribution ISO image.

Open the Prepare Flash Drive Wizard and click Next.
Select the path to the unpacked files of the Windows 8 system and the letter of the flash drive to which you want to write the distribution.
Accept the terms of another license agreement. In response to a warning that all information from the flash drive will be erased, click "Continue".
Wait for the boot media creation process to complete.
Click "Next" and then "Exit" to exit the program.

Working with BIOS

The distribution media has been created, now you need to open the BIOS and set up the boot order.

Changing the boot order is done with the arrows on the keyboard, the F5/F6 or Page Up/Page Down keys.

Change the order so that it loads first USB device HDD, and only then - the hard drive.
Save changes and exit BIOS. Usually this can be done using the F10 button, but it is better to clarify this value in the BIOS menu - all hot keys should be listed here.

After leaving computer BIOS will reboot again. You will be prompted to press any key to start Windows installation. After that, you will see a window where you need to select the language to be installed.

After choosing a language and clicking "Next", another window will appear in which you can notice a large "Install" button.

At the bottom there is a "System Restore" button. If you already have Windows 8 installed and you only want to fix critical errors, use this feature.

You will be prompted to enter the serial number of the product. Specify it and click Next.

Accept the terms of the license agreement and click Next.

From the proposed installation options, select "Custom" so that you can independently manage the partition into which the system will write.

If the disk is partitioned, it should have two partitions: one for system partitions, the other for storing files. Select the system partition (it should be much smaller in size) and click the "Disk Setup" button.

Click "Format" to clear the partition. If you do not format it, then the Windows 8 files will be written from above to the existing system (if any), which can lead to critical errors.

In response to the warning that all data will be erased, click "OK".

After the formatting process is completed, select the system partition and click "Next" to start the process of installing Windows 8 files.

After installing the components and updates, the computer will automatically restart. The next time you start, you will be prompted to specify the name of the computer, as well as configure the system settings.

You can use the "Standard Options" or customize them yourself.

Next, you will be asked to enter your email address, making it your Microsoft account login. If you don't want to do this, click the "Login without an account" button.

The system will once again prompt you to create a Microsoft account. If you don't want to do this, click Local Account.

On the next tab, enter the username and password for your account. Click the Done button. You have finished installing the system and configuring its settings.

Immediately after the installation process is completed, you will need to install hardware drivers, which are recommended to be prepared in advance, and various useful programs: antivirus, media player, browsers, etc.

If installed system you won’t like it categorically, you can always remove Windows 8 from your laptop or computer, replacing it with the “seven”.

Detailed description various installation methods Windows 8 from a flash drive or memory card.

General information about installing Windows 8 from a flash drive or memory card

As you may have guessed, this article will discuss how to install Windows 8 from a flash drive or memory card. This method of installing the operating system is well suited for laptops, netbooks and other devices where the DVD drive is missing or damaged. Installing a system from a flash drive is also appropriate in cases where there is no DVD at hand, but there is a flash drive or memory card with a capacity of 4 or more gigabytes.

The installation process can be divided into several stages:

  1. System preparation;
  2. Creating a bootable USB flash drive with a Windows 8 distribution;
  3. Enabling BIOS to boot from a flash drive;
  4. Direct installation of Windows 8;
  5. Installing drivers and utilities.

Let's start preparing the system.

Preparing the system for installing Windows 8

To install Windows 8 from a flash drive, we need:

  1. Distribution Windows 8 as an ISO image. Test version available here: link ;
  2. A flash drive or memory card with a capacity of 4 or more gigabytes. It is recommended to use a flash drive. Not all laptops allow you to boot from a card reader with a memory card inserted;
  3. A set of utilities: / .

During the installation of a new operating system, the system partition will be formatted on the hard drive. It means that all information that was on your C:\ drive will be deleted. To avoid losing important information, you need to copy it to another partition on your hard drive, to ordinary disks, to external drives, or to other computers.

A flash drive will also be formatted, on which you will write the Windows 8 distribution. All information from the flash drive will also be deleted. Important information from the flash drive also needs to be copied.

It is also recommended to pre-download drivers for your laptop or computer. Laptop owners Asus can find all drivers on this page: . Name your model, open the page with drivers and download the ones you need. For vehicle owners Acer, eMachines and Packard Bell there is also a similar directory: Drivers for Acer, eMachines and Packard Bell laptops. For many laptops Lenovo all drivers and utilities can be found here:. Many of the Windows 7 drivers on this site are also compatible with Windows 8.

Another small nuance. To later be able to return to the previous system with all installed drivers, applications and settings, check out the guide:.

Finished with the preparation. Now you can proceed to create a bootable USB flash drive with Windows 8.

Preparing a flash drive for installing Windows 8

Now you need to somehow transfer the Windows 8 installation files to a USB flash drive. If you just copy them, then nothing will work, it will not be possible to boot from a flash drive, the flash drive will not be bootable.

There are several ways to create a bootable Windows 8 flash drive. The procedure is actually very similar to preparing a Windows 7 flash drive, which is shown in the guides: and.

Let's look at the easiest way first.

Preparing a flash drive using Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool

First, unpack the archive with the utilities that you downloaded from the links above. Install and run the utility Windows 7 USB/DVD Download Tool. It is located in the corresponding folder in the archive. The main window of the utility is quite simple. Click on the button Browse and indicate where you saved iso-image with Windows 8:

Once you have selected the desired image, click on the button Next:

A window should appear asking you to choose which media to burn Windows 8 to. Insert the USB flash drive and click on USB device:

In the window, select your flash drive and click on Begin copying to start the preparation process:

We confirm the cleaning of the flash drive:

After that, the process of copying files to the USB flash drive should begin:

After a couple of minutes, the process will be completed:

A flash drive with a Windows 8 distribution kit is ready. If you were unable to create a flash drive in this way or Windows does not want to install from it, then you can try other methods. About them below.

Preparing with WinToFlash

You can find this utility in the WinToFlash folder in the archive using the links above ( / ). Let's run it:

Before proceeding with the preparation of the flash drive itself, you need to extract the installation files from the iso image to a folder on the hard drive. For this, it is convenient to use the 7-Zip utility. You can find it in the archive at the links above. We launch it, find your ISO image in the file manager and unpack it into a folder D:\Win\, For example:

Finally in the folder D:\Win\ files and folders should look like this:

At the end of unpacking, insert the USB flash drive and return to the window WinToFlash. Click on the button with a green checkmark:

A window like this should appear:

In the upper window, specify the folder with the Windows 8 installation files (in our case, this is D:\Win\), and in the bottom window indicate your flash drive with which you are going to install the system. After that press Further and accept the license agreement:

After accepting the agreement, a warning will appear stating that all information from the flash drive will be deleted:

We agree with him. The flash drive preparation process should begin:

It takes several minutes. At the end, the corresponding window will appear:

Close it and the utility itself:

The preparation of the flash drive is completed. If suddenly there are problems with this method, then you can try another method.

At the end, just close the window:

That's all. The bootable flash drive has been created. If this method suddenly does not help, then try creating a flash drive through command line . This process is described in detail in the manual: .

And so, you created a flash drive using one of the methods above. Now you can proceed to the next step - activating boot from a USB flash drive in the BIOS.

Enabling BIOS to boot from a flash drive

It is logical that if a laptop or computer boots the system on a hard drive instead of our flash drive with Windows 8, then we will not be able to install anything. To configure the boot order, you need to go into the BIOS. To do this, first we put the USB flash drive into a laptop, tablet or computer, and then we reboot. At the very beginning of the download, you need to press a certain key. Most often, during boot, at the bottom of the screen it is indicated what you need to click to enter the BIOS. Usually these are buttons. F2, Del, Esc or other.

After entering the BIOS, you need to find where the boot order is configured there. Most often, these options can be found on the tabs. Boot, System Configuration, boot order and others. Buttons are often used to change the boot order. F5/F6, various menus with arrows. Our goal is to install a USB flash drive (it can be called there as USB-HDD, Removable, USB-Flash, and so on) in the first place:

Now you need to save the settings and exit the BIOS. To do this, you need to find an item with an approximate name in the BIOS Save and Exit Setup. This will be followed by a reboot. If everything is done correctly, then the download should start from the USB flash drive.

If for some reason the boot from the USB flash drive did not start, then first of all you need to check whether the USB flash drive is in the first place in the boot list in the BIOS. It is also worth checking whether the USB flash drive is loaded on other computers. If it does not load, then you need to write it again.

Now you can proceed to the installation of the system itself.

Installing Windows 8

The installation procedure is described in detail in the manual: . There is no point in dwelling on it again in detail.

Installing Drivers and Utilities

For normal operation of Windows 8 on your laptop, computer, tablet, etc. you need to install drivers and utilities. Fortunately, the operating Windows system 8 already contains standard drivers for many devices. The problem is that these standard drivers will not allow you to fully use all the features of your electronic assistant. You need to install separate drivers. Together with them, applications are often installed to configure a particular device.

To help you find the drivers you need, a whole guide has been written:. It is worth noting that many drivers for Windows 7, which are presented on this site, are also suitable for Windows 8..

Laptop owners Asus can immediately go to the page with a list of models: . For owners Acer, eMachines and Packard Bell there is also such a page: Drivers for laptops Acer, eMachines and Packard Bell. For many production notebooks Lenovo all drivers and utilities can be accessed in this section: .

In addition to drivers, you need to install proprietary utilities from the manufacturer of your device. Some of them are necessary for the normal operation of additional keys, for indicating clicks on the display, for the operation of various energy-saving modes, for working with the camera, wireless adapters etc. You will find these utilities along with the drivers on the links above.

Separately, it is worth mentioning the various programs. We have prepared a small selection: . Perhaps you will find something useful for yourself among them.

The Return of the Classic Start Menu in Windows 8

Microsoft Corporation in Windows 8 decided to abandon the classic Start menu. A rather controversial decision, as many are accustomed to this menu. How it can be returned is described at the end of the manual:.
