How to make a beautiful background in a Power Point presentation? How to set a background for a PowerPoint presentation? You can change the presentation background in the menu

It's hard to imagine a good memorable presentation that has a standard white background. It is worth putting a lot of skill so that the audience does not fall asleep during the show. Or you can do it easier - still create a normal background.

In total, there are several options for changing the background of slides, allowing you to do this both with simple and complex means. The choice will depend on the design of the presentation, its objectives, but mainly on the desire of the author.

In general, there are four main ways to set the background for slides.

Method 1: Change design

The easiest way, which is the first step in creating a presentation.

A nice and simple method, but it changes the background for all slides, making them the same type.

Method 2: Change manually

If you need to work on a more complex background in an environment where there is nothing in the proposed design options, the old saying comes into play: "If you want to do something well, do it yourself."

This method is the most functional due to the breadth of possibilities. You can create unique views even for each slide.

Method 3: Working with templates

There is an even deeper way to universally customize background images.

This method is ideal for situations where a presentation needs to create groups of slides with different types of background pictures.

Method 4: Picture in the background

An amateurish way, but it is impossible not to say about it.

Now the picture will not be the background, but will be behind the rest of the elements. A fairly simple option, but not without drawbacks. Selecting components on a slide will become more problematic, since the cursor will most often fall on the “background” and select it.

Note

When choosing your background image, it is not enough to choose a solution with the same proportions for the slide. It is better to take a picture in high resolution, because in full-screen display, low-format backs can be pixelated and look terrible.

When choosing designs for websites, individual elements remain dependent on the specific choice. In most cases, these are different decorative particles along the edges of the slide. This allows you to create interesting combinations with your images. If it gets in the way, it's best not to choose any type of design at all and work with the original presentation.

A presentation is a necessary thing in almost any industry. It is used in education, and at meetings in any manufacturing company, when showing a new clothing line, and so on.

Presentations may not only look like we are used to watching them. They can be not only computer-based, but also pass with a felt-tip pen in hand in front of a large poster. But today we will pay attention to only one form of presentations, or rather, our question will sound like this: how to change the background in PowerPoint?

Why do we choose this software product? It's simple, Microsoft gave us a very powerful free tool that synchronizes with other tools in the Microsoft Office package, which greatly simplifies our work with this software product. In addition, PowerPoint is the most intuitive and easy to use tool. Even an inexperienced user will work with the product with interest and will not experience any inconvenience and difficulties if he gets to know it a little closer. What we are planning to do now.

So how do you change the background in PowerPoint? The first thing we start our work with is the selection of a good, high-quality, and most importantly suitable image, which is used as the background of our presentation. It is important to understand that in our work slides can be either with the same background or change as needed. Let's get started!

solid color

Often, especially if the presentation must look strict, solid colors are used. Many moderate design themes can be found in the standard set of PowerPoint, but we still consider: how to change the background to solid in PowerPoint, that is, fill the entire slide with one color.

This method is often used when it is necessary to highlight written words. This is pretty easy to do. You need to right-click on the slide you want to "fill" and select "Format Background". After that, select "Fill". We have a small window where we need to select the desired color, and the job is done.

In addition, we see a small “Transparency” slider, by default it is set to 0 percent, which means that the background transparency will be zero, if this does not suit you, then simply adjust as you wish by moving the slider.

Next, we need to determine whether all slides should have this background or just this one. When you have decided, click one of the buttons: “Close” or “Apply to all”. We looked at how to change the background to solid in PowerPoint, but there are other design options. about them right now.

Gradient

How to change slide background in PowerPoint to gradient? Remember when we filled with a solid color, we chose the option "Solid fill", but there were other options offered. One option is a gradient fill.

After we have selected this item, options appear. If you want to use the standard sets of the software, then you should click on the "Preset gradients" item and select the one that suits you best.

But you can customize the color scheme yourself. To do this, for each point of the gradient, you must set the desired color. Set the value to "Brightness" and correctly position all the points at the distance from each other that you think they should be. Further, all our actions are duplicated, as in the “Fill” paragraph: set the transparency and close it, or apply it to all slides. How to change the background of a slide in PowerPoint using a gradient, we have covered. Let's move on to the drawings.

Drawing

In a presentation, absolutely any image can be used as a background. How to change the background in PowerPoint to a picture, consider right now.

The actions are similar to the previous ones: we right-click on the slide and call "Format Background", only this time we select "Picture or Texture". After these steps, a variety of pasting options will appear: from computer memory, from the clipboard, or directly from the Internet.

Watermark

Moving on to our last question: how do I change the background in a watermarked image? Why is it needed at all? Typically used to add a company logo or important images. It is important to know that the watermark must be translucent.

To do this, we need to add an image to the slide, as we have already described, and increase the transparency of the picture, that's all the tricks.

The ability to create a background for a PowerPoint presentation is included in the list of basic skills for working with the program. A well-chosen background gives the slides a unified style. Then the presentation is more easily perceived by the audience and creates the impression of completeness.

How to choose a background for a PowerPoint presentation?

The right background is the key to an easy perception of the presentation. Consider the key principles that will help you make a good choice.

  • Background colors should match the content of the presentation and be easy to read. The color scheme is one of the ways to convey the mood of the performance to the audience.
  • The background of the presentation should match the field in which you work.
  • The choice of background design depends on the audience. Designing a presentation for schoolchildren and for potential business partners requires a different approach. If in the first case any manifestations of fantasy are appropriate, then in the second, on the contrary, restraint and conciseness are welcome.
  • The presentation background should not contrast with the colors in the body of the slide, eat up space, or compete for attention with the main content of the presentation.
  • If your presentation is meant to represent you, not a company, you should look for a background that matches your personality. But even in this case, the design of the presentation should not contradict the goals of the speech.

The slides that make up a presentation do not have to have a single background. It is allowed to use several backgrounds, but this technique should be based on a compositional idea.

How to change the background in a presentation?

Various types of fills, images, and textures are used to format the background. Let's look at how to change the background in a PowerPoint 2016 presentation using the above options.

Applying a solid fill

  1. Right click on the slide.
  2. In the menu that appears, click "Background Format".
  3. Choose an option "Solid fill".
  4. Click "Color" and select the desired shade. With option "Other Colors" you can create your own color. For this purpose, use the tab "Range".
  5. The transparency of the background can be changed by moving the slider of the same name from 0% (default) to 100% (absolute transparency).
  6. To apply the created background to the entire presentation, click "Apply to all". If click "Close", the background will only be applied to the selected slide.

Applying a Gradient Fill

Two approaches can be used to create a background that smoothly transitions from one color to another. The first involves the use of ready-made gradients, and the second - self-configuration of the color scheme of the gradient. The first option includes the following steps.

  1. Right click on the slide.
  2. Click "Background Format" > .
  3. Click "Preset Gradients" and select one of the options.
  4. Specify the required parameter value "Transparency" And "Brightness".

If you need to create your own color gradients, use the following instructions.

  1. In field "Gradient Points" mark the first point.
  2. Select "Theme Color" or "Standard Color".
  3. Use the gradient points to adjust the area of the gradient. They can be dragged. For the same purpose, the field "Position".

To make the text stand out more, you can set a different gradient for the background.

Advice! Working on the look of your presentation is greatly facilitated by the presence of built-in themes in PowerPoint. A theme is a slide layout that consists of matching colors, fonts, and special effects. Using built-in themes, you can significantly reduce the time spent on presentation design. It's also a great source of inspiration for creating your own templates.

Using an Image as a Background

The background can be a company logo or any other picture. Before making a picture a background in PowerPoint, think about how relevant the selected image will be. Additional visual noise can make the presentation difficult to understand. If you are sure that you need to use a picture as a background, then use the following algorithm of actions.

  1. Select an image whose orientation matches the orientation of the slide. If the orientation of the picture differs from the shape of the slide, the outer parts of the image may cross the boundaries of the slide.
  2. Open the slide whose background you want to change.
  3. On the tab "Constructor" click "Background Format".
  4. On the menu "Background Format" select "Pattern or Texture".
  5. In chapter "Add picture from source" click "File".
  6. Select an image and click "Insert". A great source of quality background images is PowerPoint's own organizer.
  7. open "Background Format" and adjust the transparency by moving the slider of the same name.
  8. To add a background image to all slides in your presentation, click "Apply to all".
  9. Save changes by clicking "File" > "Save".

Advice! When creating a background, do not neglect the "Transparency" parameter. A bright background image will distract the attention of the audience and interfere with the normal perception of the information presented in the slides.

The above instruction will fill the entire background of the slide with the image. But this does not mean that the image size cannot be changed. For this purpose, the program provides a parameter "Bias". While the parameter "Convert Drawing to Texture" allows you to set the repetition of the image over the entire background.

If you insert a picture on a slide in the usual way and then stretch it to the size of the background, there is a risk of image shifting, which can negatively affect the design of the presentation.

The created background for the PowerPoint presentation is worth saving in order to use it as a template in the future. Don't forget about the free backgrounds available for download.

A presentation with a plain background usually looks boring and doesn't attract attention. With the help of a properly set background, you can not only interest the viewer, but also correctly place accents. Fortunately, the functionality of the PowerPoint program allows you to select and customize background images to your liking and discretion.

How to change the background of a PowerPoint presentation

You can change the background and appearance of a presentation in PowerPoint in several ways, which will be discussed below.

Option 1: Design Tab

In the PowerPoint editor, there are several predefined options for changing the presentation design, which are available in the corresponding tab:

Unfortunately, this background change option also has a downside, not a very pleasant side - changes are made to all presentation slides. If you have a large one, then after that it will be of the same type, which is not much better than if a white background was used.

Option 2: Change the background manually

This option is suitable if you need to change for a particular slide and / or among the proposed design layouts you did not find the option that you would like. The bottom line is this:

This option is quite functional and allows, with a competent approach, to diversify the presentation and correctly place the focus. However, if you want to make a unique background for each slide, you will have to spend time on this, especially if the presentation itself consists of many elements.

Option 3: Edit templates

If you like a certain design layout, then you can apply it to the entire presentation, but at the same time change individual details on it and save it as a custom template. This is done according to the following instructions:

  1. Go to the presentation editor. Open the "View" column, which is located in the top menu of the editor.
  2. Click on "Slide Master".

  3. PowerPoint will open the Slide Layout Designer, where you can edit an existing layout or create your own. It's best to use the second option (Insert Layout button), as this way you can customize the slide view that best fits the overall look of your presentation.

  4. Now go to the "Background Format" tab and make the necessary settings there. More about this was written in previous instructions.
  5. You can also use the standard design editing tools. They are located at the top of the constructor. You can set both a general theme and customize individual aspects.
  6. If you want to save your custom layout for later work, it's best to rename it. To do this, use the corresponding button in the top menu.

  7. When you're done, click the Close Master View button to return to normal presentation mode.

  8. Pay attention to the list of slides located on the left side of the editor window. There you need to right-click on the slide. Select "Layout" from the context menu.
  9. A window will open with a choice of templates. Among them should be the one that you created earlier.

  10. You just have to choose it from the general list. The template itself will be applied automatically to the desired slide.

Option 4: Inserting a picture

This is a fairly primitive way to set a background for a presentation, the essence of which is to drag the picture and stretch it to the entire slide. The instructions for this method are as follows:

This option of setting a background image for a slide is suitable in some cases, but it is not without its drawbacks. For example, when editing the content of a slide, the cursor may accidentally hit the background without highlighting the desired element.

As you can see, setting a background for a presentation in PowerPoint is very easy. Choose the way you like. If this article helped you, then share it on social networks using the buttons below. Perhaps this way you can help someone else.

Hello friends! Let's continue to analyze the features of Power Point. Today we will take a closer look at how you can make a background for slides in our presentation. The toolkit of the program provides a fairly wide range of choices. You can choose backgrounds from the sets included in the package, you can try to make original ones from your photos or from the Internet

The background in the presentation can be selected immediately when creating a document. When you open the program, you are prompted to select themes and templates that are included in the package:

By choosing any of these templates, we will get a presentation designed in the chosen style. The program even provides an opportunity to search for ready-made sets of templates on the Internet.

How to add a background to a presentation from the web?

To find a ready-made template, you need to try to drive in the topic of interest to us in the search bar. Here is what I got when I entered the word "flowers":

You can try to look for layouts on other topics. My impression is that it is either empty or dense. Some topics are in abundance, on the other there is nothing worthwhile.

The main advantage of ready-made templates is that you do not have to think about the design of the style and background, there are already ready-made sets. There are also disadvantages - among the ready-made sets there may not be one that would suit you. And if you want to do something original, then you have to come up with something of your own.

As a background, you can choose your favorite pictures from the Internet. It all depends on the theme, your mood and creative ideas. It is important to remember that the properties of images are very different. And in order for the photo not to be cut off, not stretched, an image of 800x600 pixels in size is suitable for the background. After downloading the images, you will most likely have to resize them to the desired size.

And at the same time use third-party programs. I will use photoshop, it has a lot of simple tools to create an original background. How else you can upload a background to a slide from the Internet will be discussed in the following chapters.

How to make your own background image in a presentation?

Let's try to do something of our own, well, or almost our own. I found some pictures and opened them in photoshop. We will try to make a background from a picture using the tools of this program. First, let's change the size by going to the menu "Image" - "Image Size":

Change the size to 800x600. We do not try to change the proportions, this leads to distortion, stretching of the photo. Just enter "800", and the program will automatically calculate and set the height of the image:

If the image on the screen has been reduced to an unusually small size, use the keyboard shortcut Ctrl + to increase the image or Ctrl - if you have gone too far with the increase. This does not affect the size of the image, but it is done in order to be able to work with individual sections of the photo.

Having made the settings, we proceed directly to creating the background. To do this, there is a whole set of tools called "Filters":

Watch the video on how you can use filters to make a blank for the background from a photo:

Adding a Powerpoint Background to One Slide

In order to add a background, open an empty presentation:

Right-click to open the context menu:

We mark first "Pattern or texture". Select "Add image from source":

And then you can find the saved file that we previously edited in Photoshop, or paste the copied screenshot from the clipboard, or find more pictures on the Internet. There are two ways to do this in the program - through the Bing search engine or through the One Drive cloud. We have the first option:

By the word in the search line, all images with the tag are selected. Therefore, through this mode, you can find much more high-quality images on various topics. Having selected an interesting image (ticking it), press the "Insert" button and here we have a slide with a background:

Add a background to the next sheet. First, let's add a new blank slide:

Then we repeat the process - we call the context menu, select a picture from the Internet in the same way, only we select another similar picture:

Our second slide will look different, but the overall style of the presentation is the same:

In this way, you can make your own background for each slide separately. By the way, it happens to me that pictures from the Internet are loaded with errors or the third time. If it doesn’t load for you either, you can first expand the picture to full screen, take a screenshot and paste the presentation through the clipboard.

We make a background from an image on all slides

We just added a separate background to each slide. Usually the background on all slides is the same. If you want to do this, it's very easy. On the example of our photoshop photo I will show. Also on the first slide we call the context menu:

... and select the background format "Pattern or texture", then select our saved photo through the "File":

In order for our background to be the same for all slides, click the "Apply to all" button:

Now all slides will have the same image:

How to make a transparent background in powerpoint?

Finally, I'll tell you how to make the background transparent. If the image was made in Photoshop, then you can set the transparency at that stage. And in the Power Point program, transparency is regulated there in the background settings with a special slider called "Transparency":

You can make the background completely transparent. And you can adjust the transparency, both separately for each slide, and for all at once. In this article, I only talked about the simplest ways to select a background. The program has a very powerful toolkit for working with the background - fills, texture effects, drawings. If you experiment, you can make the original background. I wish you success!
