Desiree x. HTC Desire X - Specifications. HTC Desire X specifications and line-up neighbors

In 2012, HTC decided to revive its Desire brand, giving it a new life in the budget (if we talk about HTC Desire C) and middle class, while Desire and Desire S were flagships in 2010 and 2011 (with reservations, there was also an Incredible S , and then Sensation) year. Essentially, this allowed HTC to release a whole line of "transitional" smartphones that would have survived six months before the 2013 lineup was due to be announced at MWC 2013 later this month. The situation was aggravated and made even more confusing by the division into models with one and two SIM-cards, popular in Asian, underdeveloped and other non-operator markets, such as the CIS market. Desire C, Desire V, Desire SV and now Desire X. And this is in the presence of a lot of models with mysterious VC, VT, VX and U indices not represented in our country. And then there is the One line with the ST, SC, U and SV indices (the latter will appear with us very soon). It is no wonder that buyers and ordinary sellers are confused (and in the company itself, it seems, people themselves are not able to explain what the difference is and why, in fact, such a division is needed - I have never met the official position of HTC on this matter anywhere).

The HTC Desire X is a hardware copy of the Desire SV we already know, but instead of a weak 8-megapixel camera, a weak, though not so hopeless, 5-megapixel camera was installed. In the HTC lineup, it occupies an intermediate position between the bestseller HTC One V and its update - HTC One SV. At the same time, Desire X uses a back cover design borrowed from HTC Desire V. Such is the parsley, the roots of which lie in an incomprehensible desire to expand the line to infinity with relatively modest development resources. The recipe for today's mid-range smartphones from HTC looks like a menu-constructor in a pizzeria: we take this processor, attach such a camera, use the current version of the HTC Sense interface and design from such and such a model. We spice it up with naming from the Latin alphabet with a connected random number generator - you're done. Accordingly, an overview of such a "pipeline" model looks like - all the components are already known to us and have been tested in other models (and described in the corresponding reviews), it remains only to measure the performance with predictable, in fact, results and the operation of the main systems - screen, camera, sound etc.

SpecificationsHtcDesireXand neighbors in the line

As I said, the hardware of the HTC Desire X matches the HTC Desire SV (read his review). It has a Qualcomm MSM8225 dual-core processor with a clock speed of 1 GHz and Adreno 203 graphics, a 4-inch display with a resolution of 800x480 and a 1650 mAh battery. The camera differs (5 megapixels instead of 8) and the absence of a second SIM card.

The closest neighbors in the line are the HTC One V, HTC One SV, as well as the dual-SIM Desire V (which is already reaching the end of its life cycle) and Desire SV.

Appearance

If you've read our HTC Desire V review, everything should be clear by now. I like the bezel at the bottom edge of the screen, which allows you to control the device blindly, focusing on tactile sensations. The bezel of the screen looks like a metal one - I tried to scratch it, but it didn't work out right away.

The back contains a recognizable oval element with a camera, LED illumination and a metal look with diverging concentric circles. At the bottom there is a block of speaker holes and a reminder of HTC's collaboration with beats audio (and, accordingly, a special sound mode in the player). It is worth noting the excellent material of the back cover - it is clear that they did not save money here, to the touch it most of all resembles the flagship HTC One X (we also have a review of it). It is not soft like a soft touch, but it is very easy to clean - just swipe (and rub if necessary). I don’t think the cover is scratch resistant, but it’s just a cover.

Hardware controls are standard. It should be said that the microUSB socket is located on the left, not below, but I cannot understand who could be uncomfortable with such a solution. The power and volume keys are plastic and have a shallow stroke. They are very responsive, just a light touch is enough. At the same time, I don’t remember any accidental clicks (which, by the way, are regularly annoying in my Galaxy Note).

Inside, everything is exactly the same as in HTC Desire V. The lid is removed in the manner of a galoshes (I remember, I first saw such a solution in HTC Wildfire) - it contains a recess covering the body from below. From the inside, the power keys look just like stripes of plastic, which, in fact, surprises: they look very cheap, but they work perfectly.

On the test sample, the lid creaked noticeably when the case was lightly squeezed. Personally, such trifles do not bother me, but there are a few users for whom this is critical. I don’t know the fact is that the sample was well-worn or it’s a design problem - who cares, pay attention to this when buying and that's it.

The internal circuitry allows you to remove the SIM card and memory card without turning off the phone (you do not need to remove the battery for this).

Screen

The display, in my opinion, does not differ at all from the display in Desire V, there has been no particular sun in our area in recent weeks, I am inclined to believe that it will be readable in the bright sun, but there is no need to wait for miracles. The screen sensor supports 4-finger simultaneous pressing.

Sound

Traditionally, the sound of HTC smartphones with beats audio technology (algorithm) evokes both positive and negative emotions. On the one hand, the algorithm really works (only in the player, in the radio - not). And the sound of the speaker looks good (considering the price category of the Desire X, of course). On the other hand, why not include, if you really really want to focus on good sound, beats audio headphones in the kit?

Camera

I don’t know if the problem is that there was a prototype in our hands, which it’s impossible to put on a commercial firmware, or it’s the intrigues of incomprehensible journalists, but the HTC Desire X camera does not shine with results. Of course, I liked it more than in the Desire SV, which turned out to be disgusting in general (and why does it need 8 megapixels?) In clear weather, everything looks great. In cloudy - various degrees of lousy. But to shoot in series (and I do this often, saving "film", thank God, is not necessary for a long time, and poor quality can sometimes be compensated for by the number of photos, among which there may be a decent picture), I do not advise her to anyone. The camera is choked up and begins to shift color layers or produce artifacts. That looks, frankly, a problem artificially created by the manufacturer, since HTC One V, with comparable system performance, scribbles like a machine gun (it's time to get acquainted with its review, if you have not done this yet) until the memory on the card runs out. Add to this the limitation in video shooting on the frame size of 800x480 pixels (the One V has this figure at 1280x720), and it will become clear that the word “progress” in the case of a smartphone of the “transitional period” looks like an empty sound.

The camera interface now has a "Group portrait" mode, in which the camera automatically tracks faces, then takes a series of shots and combines the most successful faces in the final shot (someone blinked, sneezed - we all know that this happens). In practice, the mode seems to work, but does not leave the original images, therefore, it is difficult to assess the quality of the automation in this case.

Performance

The performance level of HTC Desire X in synthetic tests is predictably on par with that of the Desire SV. In the AnTuTu benchmark, this is 5680 points (SV - 5230, One V - 2622), in Vellamo - 1011 points (1056 and 1057, respectively, SV and One V).

Battery life

The most controversial indicator in the operation of smartphones in general and Android smartphones in particular, since it strongly depends on the use case. Desire X brought no surprises - at maximum load, it can work for 5-6 hours, depending on the brightness of the display. If, for example, you are afraid of using 3G and really want to stretch the operating time for the whole day, then you can easily achieve this. The recipe is simple - the main thing is to take your phone out of your pocket less, not to use the Internet at all (or dosed - 5 minutes every two hours). But, in this case, the question arises - why then buy a smartphone?

Competitive environment

And here the most interesting, in my opinion, begins. At around UAH 2,500 online, the Desire X looks like one of the best performance deals in its class. But if you take a step aside, then it becomes not as solid as we would like. Take the Huawei Ascend G500 Pro, comparable in performance (we have a review of it), which has a higher screen diagonal (4.3 inches), a higher resolution (960x540 pixels), and an IPS matrix (albeit not the best one). With comparable performance, the price is only 300 hryvnia higher. And if you pay 650, then you can take the excellent LG Optimus L9, which is better in all respects. Not to mention the interesting Acer Liquid Gallant Duo, which can be bought for the same UAH 2,500. True, in the synthetic performance test it loses, but in the browser benchmark it shows the same results. At the same time, HTC Desire X has no direct competitors, although in practice most buyers will most likely consider the Samsung Galaxy Ace 2 as a purchase. To fans of the HTC brand, I sincerely recommend or take the HTC One V (better design, seriously better camera, slightly smaller screen size and lower performance). Or wait a couple of months, when the first demand (and with it the price) for HTC One SV, which should be much more interesting than Desire X.

In the dry residue

Technologically, HTC Desire X looks like Desire SV with one SIM-card in the body from HTC Desire V. Today this is the best offer for 2500 hryvnia (if we talk about prices on the Internet). At the same time, if you like the HTC brand, I would advise or buy the more interesting HTC One V today. Or, if you can wait a couple of months, then look at HTC One SV. And if you do not get hung up on the HTC brand, then I advise you to pay attention either to Huawei models comparable in price and capabilities, or to the completely good (and slightly more expensive) LG Optimus L9. This is exactly the case when it is better not to buy a good, in essence, phone due to the fact that it is a transitional model, which you can be disappointed in buying after a few months, with the appearance of more "tasty" new products.

3 reasons to buy HTC Desire X

  • good performance in its class;
  • nice design;
  • affordable price in every sense;

2 reasons not to buy HTC Desire X

  • a camera with serious flaws (children's video resolution and problems with burst shooting);
  • a transitional model that loses to both its predecessor and the soon-to-be-released heir;

In the category of budget smartphones, there is always a wide range of products. The competition between them is high. Naturally, each manufacturer tries to attract the attention of potential buyers to their particular model. To do this, they use original solutions in the external design, select the components of the hardware platform to ensure the speed and characteristics of cameras and displays. The HTC Desire X smartphone was developed according to this principle. Of course, the above criteria directly depend on the cost of the device. You have to understand that there are no flagship devices in the budget segment. The main thing here is to see how the balance between price and equipment is maintained. And judging by the reviews, in Desire X it is optimal. So let's take a look at the characteristics of this model.

Appearance

The manufacturer, releasing HTC Desire X Dual, did not limit itself only to classic colors. Added a dark blue variant to the lineup. Of the features of the appearance, it is worth highlighting the metal frame that runs along the entire perimeter.

If you do not take into account the thickness of the case (9.3 mm), then the gadget can be safely called compact, since its length and width are 118.5 and 62.3 mm, respectively.

The layout of the controls is standard. On the front side there is a panel with three touch buttons. To enable and disable the key is located on the upper end in the center. Next to it, offset to the left, is the headphone port. There are no elements on the bottom side, except for the microphone hole. The charging port and volume rocker are located on the right side end.

As you can see, the phone is not much different from its predecessors. However, it still has a twist - the location of the brand name. It is now under the camera lens closer to the left side of the back cover. There is a speaker hole under it. It is difficult to judge whether the place has been successfully selected for it, since in the reviews the owners say that they often cover it with their hand. And this, accordingly, leads to a slight distortion of the sound.

Ergonomics

Many buyers have noticed the similarities between the HTC Desire X and another model from this manufacturer, the One X. However, upon closer inspection, you can find many differences. Definitely, the described smartphone falls short of the flagship, but in its class it will not go unnoticed. Almost all owners consider it successful in terms of ergonomics. Let's remember that back in 2012, not all buyers wanted to walk with shovels. And Desire X, thanks to its compact size, does not cause any inconvenience. In the hand lies as if poured. The weight is light, so it can be carried in any pocket of clothing. Even those who talk on the phone for a long time noticed that the hand does not get tired at all.

Screen

HTC Desire X has a four-inch display. As for an inexpensive model, it has pretty good characteristics. Resolution - 800 × 480 px. Manufacturing technology - Super LCD. Quite good pixel density - 233 ppi. This indicator guarantees a high-quality and clear image. The colors on the screen look rich, the contrast is enough even for working outdoors in sunny weather. There are light and proximity sensors. Also, the manufacturer has implemented the Multitouch option.

It is impossible not to notice that the screen is protected by glass with a high level of resistance against mechanical damage. The significant advantages include the oleophobic layer. It prevents the accumulation of fingerprints.

HTC Desire X: hardware platform specifications

The phone is built on a processor model already known to users - Snapdragon S4 (MSM8225). It is produced by a company with a fairly good reputation - Qualcomm. Of course, the characteristics of this chip are weak by modern standards, but we shouldn't forget that the device was released in 2012. The processor is based on two cores. They are capable of overclocking up to 1000 MHz each. The system is 32-bit. Architecture - ARMv7. The technical process is 45 nm. In order for the phone to work with graphic images, the manufacturer, along with the central processor, installed the Adreno 203 video card. All these characteristics are complemented by 768 MB of RAM. In general, the platform turned out to be not very powerful, but there is enough performance for this smartphone. The interface works smoothly. Users claim that it is possible to use multiple applications at once. The device copes with such a load without difficulty. There will also be no problems with games that match the characteristics. However, the case will heat up noticeably during the process.

As for the built-in storage, its volume is small - only 4 GB. Owners will have to immediately install a memory card (up to 32 GB). By the way, the manufacturer has provided another way to expand the memory - cloud service Dropbox. The subscription is valid for two years. The amount of disk space is 25 GB.

This hardware platform fully complies with the requirements of the Android 4.0.4 OS installed. The developers did not abandon the proprietary Sense 4.1 shell.

Battery life

Will HTC Desire X please with battery life? In their reviews, the owners drew attention to the fact that a 1650 mAh battery can provide up to 24 hours of operation, subject to active use. If you use the device only for calls and connect to the Internet for a short time, then you will have to charge it no more than once every two days. But during games, the battery life will last for four hours.

Camera

This phone model is equipped with only one camera. The lens is located on the rear panel. Module resolution - 5 Mp. An indisputable advantage is the presence of a flash. Thanks to her, you can take good shots in low light. Fast auto focusing is provided by ImageChip technology.

In order to appreciate the pictures taken by the HTC Desire X camera, it is necessary to take into account its low cost. For its segment, optics can be safely called high-quality. However, for a detailed shot, good lighting is necessary (the flash will not be able to provide such conditions). If you shoot the subject too close, the highlights will be visible in the picture.

The owners attributed the presence of the VideoPic option to the advantages. It provides the ability to simultaneously work in both photo and video modes. The clips are recorded as 800 × 480 px. There is automatic stabilization. However, you will not be able to view the video on a large screen, since the picture will be highly pixelated.

Features of work

For those who are not yet familiar with the proprietary shell of this manufacturer, we will offer a short instruction. HTC Desire X will delight users with a simple and intuitive interface. To make the screen active, you just need to unlock the gadget. For ease of use, all pre-installed applications are sorted alphabetically. When numbers are stored in the phonebook, they are indicated in different colors. If you suddenly don't like something, then you just need to save the information again. It is very convenient to search for a subscriber in the book. To do this, just enter the first letters of the first or last name. You can also search by number.

According to the owners, the virtual keyboard is very comfortable. Either numeric or alphabetic mode can be selected. In the first case, the buttons will be large, in the second - smaller. In order for them to increase, it is enough to change the orientation of the phone to horizontal.

Initially, standard applications are installed in the smartphone. If you want to expand this list, then everything you need can be found in " Play Store".

HTC Desire X: reviews

Considering that this smartphone model is presented in the budget segment, most users felt that it has no shortcomings. The only critical drawback was the plastic case. Its reliability and quality of material raised doubts among buyers.

But those who nevertheless decided to purchase a gadget, identified a number of advantages. These include:

  • Sense 4.1 proprietary firmware with a beautiful interface.
  • The current version of the operating system (for 2013).
  • Powerful processor.
  • A high-quality screen with good saturated color reproduction.
  • The presence of a slot for a memory card.

Of course, this model cannot be compared with flagship smartphones. However, for its segment, this is a worthy specimen. Surprisingly, after a few years (more than four), it can still be purchased in online stores. On average, they ask for 4500 rubles for it. The characteristics of the phone fully justify this price.

As of today, there is a lot of competition in the smartphone market in the $ 300 price bracket. This is not surprising, since not everyone can afford to purchase a flagship modification. On the other hand, everyone would like to get a device with a nice design, good performance, a large display and a high-quality camera.

As the market review shows, HTC Desire X can now be called one of the most optimal options. Reviews from the owners of the model indicate that its name is justified (translated into Russian it means “desire”), because buyers receive for a relatively small amount of money at its disposal a device that fully meets the above basic requirements.

general description

The manufacturer offers three color options for the device body. In particular, it can be black, white or dark blue. The front glass is framed by a metal frame. The weight of the smartphone is 114 grams, and its dimensions are 118.5 x 62.3 x 9.3 millimeters. The location of the main controls here can be called quite good. In front of the screen are touch keys "Home", "Back" and "Menu". The last button also switches between applications that are already open. The HTC Desire X's power button is centered at the top, and to the left of it is the headphone jack. The microUSB port is located on the right side as well. A hole for a microphone is provided at the bottom.

A distinctive feature of this model is the location of the company's logo, which on the back panel made of matte smooth plastic is shifted to the lower left corner (located under the camera window). This solution has brought its own flavor to the design of the device. There is a speaker just below the logo. Its location was chosen, to put it mildly, not quite right. As testimonials made by the owners of HTC Desire X testify, this is not very convenient, because during a conversation the speaker is covered with a hand, which does not in the best way affect the transmitted sound.

Screen

The model is equipped with a Super LCD display, which has a size of four inches. The screen resolution is 480 x 800. It has quite sufficient brightness and contrast, which is not much lost when using the device in the sun. The picture is very rich. It uses a high-quality sensor that supports the Multitouch function. Fingerprints may remain on the screen, but due to use, there is no need to wipe it down frequently.

HTC Desire X's display is large, and it is enough not only for viewing photos, but also for using the visual keyboard. Among other things, the screen is protected from impacts due to high-strength glass. Information about its manufacturer is classified. At the same time, it is probably known that material is not used here as in previous versions. In general, the display can be attributed to the advantages of the HTC Desire X. Feedback from experts and users of the device has become a serious confirmation of this.

Ergonomics

At first glance, it may seem that the smartphone is a miniature copy of the flagship model One X. If you look closely, you will notice that in fact there are many differences between them. In terms of ergonomics, the HTC Desire X is a pretty good phone. Having a four-inch display, the device is lightweight and fits comfortably in the hand, without causing any discomfort even during a long phone call.

Specifications

The smartphone is equipped with a dual-core processor that operates at a frequency of 1 GHz. The volume of the built-in memory is 4 gigabytes (there is also a slot for increasing it), and the operative memory is 768 megabytes. The interface works quite quickly, without any delays, even if you do not turn off several applications. There will be no problems with games either, the only thing that can cause complaints is that the device heats up a lot. At the same time, this flaw is not observed when working with mail, music and other applications. As practice shows, all this filling is quite enough for normal support of the Android 4.0.4 operating system, as well as the company's proprietary shell known as Sense-4.

According to representatives of the manufacturing company, it is desirable that the firmware in the HTC Desire X smartphone is updated from time to time. This is especially true when the device starts to reboot constantly or does not turn on at all. It is quite simple to do this on your own without contacting specialized points.

Battery

The model is equipped with a removable battery, the volume of which is 1650 mAh. As practice shows, this capacity is quite enough for active use of the device throughout the whole day. If you make only a few calls a day and do not abuse the Internet, this time is doubled, which allows us to safely speak of a high degree of autonomy of the model.

Sound

HTC Desire X boasts integrated Beats Audio technology, which delivers deep sound and music with a so-called live effect. The device is capable of providing wireless audio transmission with a fairly high definition. Equalizer is not provided in the smartphone. At the same time, the aforementioned regime is intended to completely replace it. However, connoisseurs of outstanding musical performance are likely to be disappointed. It should be noted that there is enough sound for telephone conversations through a headset.

Camera

The HTC Desire X has only one five megapixel camera. It uses a 28 mm, automatic flash and backlit matrix. Moreover, it uses the company's patent technology - ImageChip. with the help of which it would be possible to carry out video communication is absent here. The resulting shots, as for a phone from this price range, are quite high quality. Excellent detail can be traced only under good lighting conditions. In the event that photos are created on short distance from the object, separate “blinded” areas appear on the image. On the other hand, at a great distance, the colors are muted by the flash.

Filming of videos is carried out with a resolution of 800 x 480. At this time, the device even tries to stabilize the picture. Compared to cameras installed on similar modifications of smartphones, the viewed records look much more solid (the main thing is not to do it when shooting sudden movements). At the same time, watching them on modern plasma TVs is not recommended.

Menus and Applications

The HTC Desire X smartphone has a simple and quite typical menu for devices from this manufacturer. It is entered by pressing the corresponding button on the front panel. All applications are sorted alphabetically. In the phonebook, calls are indicated in different colors depending on the type. The search for subscribers can be carried out both by the number and by the name of the contact. The slide-out virtual keyboard is quite handy. It is very easy to type the text of messages due to it. This is largely due to the large display size.

The list of applications that are initially installed on the phone is standard for all similar products of the company. It contains the programs you need to start using your model. Also included is a 25GB Dropbox subscription (valid for two years).

Precautionary measures

One of the weakest points that the device has is the volume control located on the right side. It is quite fragile and can quickly fail due to the constant opening and closing of the back cover. However, if you do not do this, you should not worry about this.

Even despite the use of shock-resistant glass in the model, it is not recommended to put the gadget on the front part, as scratches may appear on the screen. Depending on the care and accuracy of the owner of the phone, abrasions may appear on the case over time. Proceeding from all this, it would be quite rational to buy a cover for HTC Desire X. Its cost is not that high, but the visual appeal of the device will last much longer.

conclusions

In general, the model can be called one of the best options in its price segment. Of course, it cannot compete with the leading smartphones running on the Android operating system, but it has undoubtedly already earned its army of fans. From the best side, the device is characterized by its technical characteristics, performance and the possibility of a fairly long battery life. There are no serious flaws in it (except for an unreasonably large hole for the camera and not the most reliable volume control). As for the cost of HTC Desire X, the price of the modification in domestic stores is on average about three hundred US dollars.
